Women Of The Tribe

Original Artwork Acrylic and mixed media on canvas
127 x 87 cm

The women of the tribe played just as big a role as the men in hunting and collecting food. They would dig for the blue tongue lizard and goanna just after burning of the country as they dug into their hole to avoid the flames. Also picking the many bush plums as they came to fruition at different times of the year. The fish poisoning technique with crushing of the bark and placed in waterholes to catch fish was a common practice used by the women to collect fish. Hughie Ahwon
